Hi, Friends!
If you follow IPL cricket with even a passing interest, you already know that KL Rahul is one of those batters who just seems to make run-scoring look effortless.
But what he has been doing for Delhi Capitals lately is something that truly deserves a closer look. This is not just a story of good numbers; it is a story of records being rewritten, season after season.

Who Is KL Rahul?

Kannaur Lokesh Rahul, born on 18 April 1992, is an Indian international cricketer who plays for the national team as a right-handed wicket-keeper batter across all formats of the game. He represents Karnataka in domestic cricket and Delhi Capitals in the IPL, and is currently the vice-captain of the Indian cricket team in the Test format. Rahul made his international debut in 2014 against Australia in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. Quite a debut stage, right?

A Long IPL Journey Before Delhi

KL Rahul has played for multiple IPL teams since his debut in 2013. His first season was with Royal Challengers Bangalore, after which he was part of Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014 and 2015. He rejoined RCB in 2016, missed IPL 2017 due to injury, and then represented Punjab Kings from 2018 to 2021. Ahead of the 2022 season, Rahul was drafted by Lucknow Super Giants as their captain for INR 17 crore, making him the joint-highest paid cricketer in the IPL alongside Virat Kohli. Rahul was released by Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the 2025 IPL mega auction and was bought by Delhi Capitals for 14 crores.

Record-Breaking Moments That Define Him

In the 2018 IPL, during his team's first match of the season, he scored the fastest fifty in IPL history, taking just 14 balls to reach the milestone and breaking the record of Sunil Narine. That kind of explosive start set the tone for what was to come. His remarkable consistency is nearly unmatched, having surpassed the 500-run mark in six different seasons, including an Orange Cap-winning 2020 campaign where he struck a sensational 132* -- the highest individual score by an Indian in the tournament at the time.
Then came the 2026 IPL season, which pushed his legacy even further. Rahul scored an unbeaten 152 runs off 67 balls against Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, becoming the first Indian batter to score 150 or more in an IPL innings and recording the highest individual score by an Indian in the tournament's history. His innings included 14 fours and 11 sixes at a strike rate of 226.86, and also became the highest score ever recorded for Delhi Capitals.

The Six-Hitting Record No One Else Has

KL Rahul etched his name into the history books despite his team's underwhelming performance in IPL 2026. Rahul was one of the few shining stars for DC as he ended his campaign with 593 runs in 14 innings, finishing as the fourth-highest run-scorer of the tournament.
What really stands out, though, is the six-hitting record. With his four sixes in the final clash against KKR, Rahul ended the season with 31 sixes, becoming the first-ever player to have hit at least 30 sixes for three different franchises in an IPL season. He had slammed 32 and 30 sixes for Punjab Kings in IPL 2018 and 2021, while he smashed 30 maximums for Lucknow Super Giants in 2022. Now, he has done it again with Delhi Capitals. That kind of power-hitting consistency across different teams is genuinely rare.

Signing Off IPL 2026 in Style

Delhi Capitals signed off their IPL 2026 campaign with a commanding 40-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders, with KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav starring together. Rahul hammered five fours and four sixes during his 30-ball 60, registering his sixth fifty of the season. The result helped Delhi Capitals finish sixth on the points table with seven wins and seven losses.

A Batter Who Keeps Raising the Bar

A versatile batter who started in the middle order before moving to the top, Rahul also keeps wicket in the IPL, and has emerged as one of the league's most consistent run-scorers, with more than 590 runs in each season from 2018 to 2022. Rahul has scored 21 international centuries -- 11 in Test cricket, 8 in One Day Internationals, and 2 in Twenty20 Internationals.
Whether it is breaking the fastest fifty record, rewriting the highest individual score for an Indian in IPL, or becoming the only player to hit 30-plus sixes for three different franchises, KL Rahul continues to make cricket history in his own quiet, classy way. If you are a Delhi Capitals fan, he is absolutely the player to watch in every innings. And if you are just a cricket enthusiast, his story is proof that consistency and brilliance can absolutely go hand in hand.
